Driving license compromised by using CBD?
Drug tests evaluate the amount of the main THC metabolite present, THC-COOH. If this metabolite exceeds 50 ng / ml you will test positive, but this concentration varies according to the metabolism of each person, the quantities of marijuana consumed, the frequency of use and other factors.
Research is increasingly enthusiastic about the beneficial qualities of cannabidiol but some people have expressed their fears about the risk of being able to test positive for a drug test and incurring the withdrawal of the license after taking CBD through oil or tablets . Is it possible to pass legal problems in case of control by law enforcement?
When it comes to cannabis very often the antennae are raised ... after so many years that this plant and its extracts have been considered illegal it is difficult to understand how far one can go in the consumption of cannabinoids . If, for example, following an accident while driving, you are subjected to drug tests, it is possible that the innocent consumption of CBD in the form of concentrated oil could create problems for us and lead to the withdrawal of the driving license or worse to a criminal complaint?
The answer is very simple: no.
CBD is not a psychotropic substance and is not included among the substances for which the so-called drug test is carried out, neither by checking the blood, nor the urine, much less with the hair test . But you must always be sure not to use products that may be contaminated with traces of THC, which instead is part of this list of offending substances.
Difference between CBD and THC
The molecules present in cannabis are not all the same! When it comes to driving licenses and driving skills, the law does not mention CBD in any way because this cannabis molecule is not psychoactive. What makes cannabis incompatible with driving vehicles is the presence of another cannabinoid, THC or delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol or more commonly also called tetrahydrocannabinol, is one of the active ingredients of cannabis. THC is produced from the flowers of the marijuana plant and is in fact a psychogenic substance and is therefore included in the list of substances considered disabling for driving .
While there are no legal limits for CBD, THC in legal cannabis in Italy must by law have a percentage below 0.2% (with a tolerance of up to 0.6%). Above these values we talk about illegal cannabis or medical cannabis (if accompanied by a regular medical prescription and purchased through legal channels).
CBD is used by many as a supplement also thanks to the fact that it has very few contraindications and above all it does not affect the mood, conscience, mental faculties and physical abilities in the least . It is now considered a renowned anti-inflammatory and anxiolytic, has given encouraging results both in in vitro and in vivo studies, moreover recently this molecule has been removed from the list of doping substances by the World Anti-Doping Agency and its excellent properties for health have been recognized. also by WHO (the World Health Organization). When taken as a concentrated oil (or even gel capsules or highly concentrated skin products) , in compounds that do not include the presence of THC, it is absolutely harmless for those who drive.
The problem of THC contamination
It is worth noting that CBD, being extracted from the cannabis plant which also contains THC, could become contaminated and carry unwanted traces of psychotropic substances.. In case of drug testing this could be a serious problem and very difficult to overcome. This risk exists for many cannabidiol supplements whose production does not take place under strict controls. The only way to make sure you don't test positive for THC metabolites is to check the amounts of tetrahydrocannabinol in your CBD supplement. If you are relying on a product from a quality laboratory that thoroughly tests its extracts and guarantees little or no THC content, then you have a very good chance of passing the test. On the other hand, drug screenings only verify the presence of the psychotropic substances contained in cannabis, namely THC and its metabolites ... for this reason, always try to check the components of the products you use every day , checking the actual quantities of CBD and THC, and not to take unnecessary risks!
