CBD Oil - Pros and Cons

CBD Oil - Pros and Cons

CBD (cannabidiol) is certainly the most famous non-psychoactive cannabinoid, at the center of recent scientific studies that find other therapeutic applications every day.

All the benefits of CBD in CBD oil

CBD oil , in particular, is the legal recruitment method par excellence: the Italian law of December 2, 2016, n.242, in fact, completely legalizes the sale of light cannabis and derivatives, but prohibits its consumption for recreational purposes. .

Smoking legal marijuana , legal as it is to buy, remains an administrative offense. CBD oil, on the other hand, legally considered a supplement, not only does not require a prescription but can be consumed without the risk of being stopped by the police.

Available on the market in various concentrations (generally from 5% to 20% ), what characterizes it is the  versatility of intake:

  • Drops of  CBD oil Elaion , in sub-lingual solution or also for external use (in the latter case to be applied directly to the skin). You find them available in different concentrations on Bongae ;

But why on earth should you use CBD oil?

Positive effects of CBD oil

The legal cannabis market is rapidly expanding, so thanks to various researches we are acquiring more information on the substances it contains.

Although THC is the most well-known active ingredient among cannabis users, more in-depth studies have recently been conducted on another metabolite of Cannabis sativa : cannabidiol ( CBD ).

It is a substance that has no influence on the psyche, but has sedative effects and helps to relax. If THC and CBD work together, the effects are even more surprising as cannabidiol can soothe the exciting effects of tetrahydrocannabinol.

The fortune of legal weed oil is largely due to the discovery of the numerous positive effects and therapeutic properties of the cannabinoid, which have convinced even those who are not avid marijuana users .

Furthermore, since CBD is not a psychoactive cannabinoid, it is not linked to the "high", a peculiarity of THC, the other major metabolite of cannabis. Even those who are not interested in THC and psychotropic effects, therefore, approached CBD oil exclusively for its properties.

CBD also has numerous properties. Being an effective antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, analgesic, anticonvulsant and antidepressant, it is used (always under medical supervision) to calm the symptoms of:

  • epilepsy
  • schizophrenia
  • depression
  • Parkinson's disease .
  • Anxiolytic effects,
  • antidepressants and anticonvulsants.

Be careful though: in these cases we recommend first of all a consultation with a specialist and, only then, the intake of CBD oil to counteract the symptoms of anxiety, depression and involuntary muscle spasms. Do not replace it under any circumstances (unless your doctor recommends it) with drugs: CBD oil  is  not a medicine.

Another reason behind the success of CBD oil is the absence of serious and potentially lethal contraindications for the body.

Precisely because it does not have psychoactive effects, in the list of prohibited substances of the World Anti-Doping Agency of 2018, in force since 2019, CBD is no longer present: athletes can use CBD-based products to soothe pain and cramps from overexertion, muscle tears, bruises, etc.

Negative effects and contraindications of CBD oil

CBD oil  offers numerous benefits, however it does not imply the absence of unwanted effects - even if, to be honest, they do occur in rare cases -.

In fact, it can cause:

  • Dry mouth as CBD affects the receptors that are responsible for producing saliva. This is not harmful to health, it can only cause discomfort.
  • Low blood pressure or fatigue when taken in large quantities.
  • Vertigo, headache and diarrhea, although very rare and linked to a reaction of the body to the substance. These reactions are temporary and can usually occur in the case of particularly sensitive and intolerant subjects to a wide range of substances.

Furthermore, CBD acts as a strong antagonist of drugs that perform similar functions and that enter the circulation through the same neuro-receptors.

As can be seen from the contraindications reported here, these are not only temporary negative effects, but also minor ones that are not extremely harmful and that occur only in certain cases.

It therefore goes without saying that even if CBD oil is a natural product, doses should not be abused.

Especially in the case of medium-severe disorders, its intake must in any case be well planned and dosed, so it is always advisable to consult the treating doctor - also to be sure that the CBD preparations you intend to take do not alter other pharmacological treatments or internal balances -.

If, on the other hand, it is used as a supplement or as a cosmetic product, the rule is the same as for any other product:  take it without abusing it .

The International Journal of Neuroscience in 2009 published a study during which, for 6 weeks, CBD oil was administered to patients with dystonic movement disorders in dosages ranging from 100 mg to 600 mg. In parallel, the patients were also taking their regular medications.

The result was a  general and widespread improvement in motor disturbances.

However, side effects did occur: for doses below 100 mg daily, some patients experienced hypotension, dry mouth, psychomotor slowing, dizziness and sedation.

Some patients who were given more than 300 mg per day, however, in addition to these symptoms also recorded an increase in hypokinesia and tremors at rest.

However, contrary to what resting tremors and hypokinesia suggested, which is a potential ability of CBD to potentiate the symptoms of Parkinson's disease, the Journal of Psychopharmacology in 2014 published another study in which it was concluded that the oil CBD was found to have positive effects on the conditions of patients suffering from this disease.

Last but not least, the side effects include  inhibition of drug metabolism in the liver.

In fact, CBD interacts in the liver with the same enzymes that metabolize 60% of drugs, with respect to which cannabidiol acts as a competitor.

Therefore it is necessary, in the event that you are subjected to particular pharmacological treatments, always consult your doctor before taking this particular product.

In any case, as you have been able to read, the beneficial effects of CBD oil are numerous, so much so that cannabidiol (especially in the last decade) is a strong subject of scientific studies.
